By Bob Marovich The Journal of Gospel Music is saddened to learn of the transition of Elder Arlester Washington, gospel artist and pastor of Now Faith Worship Center in Lexington, Kentucky, as a result of a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday, April 9. Originally from Madisonville, Kentucky, Pastor Washington migrated to Chicago, was a member of the Gospel Crystals and the Chicago Gospel Cavaliers, and traveled with the Caravans and Jessy Dixon. Every Sunday morning, host Sid Ordower treated viewers to performances by such stalwarts as the Caravans, the Mighty Clouds of Joy, the Norfleet Brothers, Andrae’ Crouch, Jessy Dixon, the Staple Singers, and the Barrett Sisters. Nash Shaffer Jr., Organist, Gospel Announcer, Historian, Passes

JGM received word today from the Chicago Area Gospel Announcers Guild that Bro. Nash Shaffer Jr. passed away after an extended illness. Shaffer’s “Sunday Morning Golden Gospel” radio program was a staple of the Chicago airwaves for many years. His love for, and knowledge of, classic gospel music was limitless. He grew up around the greats and accompanied many of them on organ, sometimes at a moment’s notice.
