Sacrifice of Praise (2012)
By Bob Marovich for The Black Gospel Blog
“Love of My Life,” the opening track of singer-songwriter Nada Grant’s full-length CD, Sacrifice of Praise, is a love song to the Lord delivered in an attractively modernized ‘60s/’70s soft soul. The listener eagerly anticipates more tracks like it to follow.
Alas, it turns out to be the strongest track on the album and the only one that stays true to an old-school/new-school blend. The succeeding selections are conventional praise and worship songs written by Grant, and though the Louisville, Kentucky-based singer has a pleasant enough voice, her vocal control is uneven in certain spots and shows some recording strain in others.
The back of the jewel case lists some songs in the wrong order, though the list is correct on the CD itself. It might have been best to release “Love of My Life” as a single first.
