“Smile”
The Lee Boys
The Lee Boys
From the forthcoming CD Testify (available October 23, 2012)
The sacred steel tradition is not as prominent in today’s gospel music scene as it should be, but if the Lee Boys had their way, it would be.
Born and raised in Miami , the Lee Boys grew up in the House of God, where their father and grandfather, Elder Robert E. Lee, was pastor and steel player. On the upbeat and encouraging “Smile,” the family group augments their contemporary quartet singing with the whir of the B3 and the tanginess of the steel guitar, which weaves through the melody like an additional voice.
The Lee Boys are brothers Alvin Lee (guitar), Derrick Lee and Keith Lee (vocals), and their nephews Roosevelt Collier (pedal steel guitar), Alvin Cordy Jr. (seven-string bass), and Earl Walker (drums). Their new CD is being distributed by RED/Provident.
