Benjamin Cone III & WORSHIP
Muscle Shoals Sound Gospel (2010)
Featured vocalist on the Mississippi Mass Choir’s hit, “God Made Me,” Benjamin Cone III leads his own group, WORSHIP, on a loping contemporary choir arrangement called “The Race.”
Taking for its lyrics Ecclesiastes 9:11, “The Race” emphasizes the “endureth” part, as in “nobody said the race was going to be easy.” Second vocalist Ashley Brown is on fire, squeezing every ounce of utility from the extended vamp to hammer the message home.
Organized by Cone in 1997 in his hometown of Jackson , Mississippi , WORSHIP is a 30-member choir that also performs acts of charity to those less fortunate.
