My Father, The Queen is a largely true Black daughter’s story of being raised by a closeted gay man and the trauma they both endured because of society’s prejudice, and their path towards healing.
The film looks at the intersection of the LGBTQ+ community and the Black Church during the 80s and 90s and shows how integral gospel music was and is to the community.
It’s a conversation that’s long overdue and is told through the eyes of a daughter who longs for a loving relationship with her father regardless of who he loves.
