“Pray”
Tyreese Hall & the Golden Stars
Independent (release date: May 5, 2023)

By Robert M. Marovich

If you’ve run out of reasons to pray, Tyreese Hall & the Golden Stars have some ideas for you.

After all, there’s hatred, jealousy, shootings, COVID, racism, mothers against daughters, and fathers against sons. A steady ostinato from the rhythm section gives the song a Pentecostal flavor. A hard-driving track about praying time, ideal for the quartet fan.

Hall & the Golden Stars are the latest iteration of the Golden Stars of New Haven, Connecticut, a male quartet that has been singing for many decades, making their first commercial recording back in 1956.
