“Brighter Days”
Roshawn Nicole
Roshawn Nicole Records (release date: May 4, 2024)

By Robert M. Marovich

Released last May in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, indie gospel artist Roshawn Nicole’s “Brighter Days” is evergreen.

The song’s urban inspirational vibe features the singer, songwriter, actor, and inspirational speaker being real, but also poetic, about overcoming her struggles with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and addiction. “I see the sunlight but I still feel the rain,” she sings to a finger-popping rhythm, navigating the dark tunnel of depression toward the light.

The more artists of all genres who, like Roshawn Nicole, share their mental health battles publicly, the more who will seek help and the fewer who will suffer in silence.
