The Journal of Gospel Music was saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Ron Kenoly. He transitioned from earth to glory on Tuesday, February 3, at age 81.

On the strength of his 1992 Hosanna Music album Lift Him Up, Kenoly became one of the pioneers of the Praise & Worship movement in sacred music. The singer, songwriter, pastor, and acclaimed worship leader was best known for songs such as “Ancient of Days,” “Anointing Fall On Me,” and “Jesus Is Alive.” He released more than 20 albums in his lifetime, was nominated for nine Dove Awards, and his 1996 Integrity Music release Welcome Home won a Dove Award in 1997 for Best Praise & Worship Album. Kenoly is credited with changing the way churches worship through song.

Here is a video of Dr. Ron Kenoly performing his “Ancient of Days” live:

We send our deepest condolences to Dr. Kenoly’s wife Tavita, and their three sons, Tony, Samuel, and Ronald Jr., as well as to his friends and multitude of fans worldwide.
