“Jesus (I Love You Lord Today)”
The Family
From the Blacksmoke Music Worldwide album Together Forever
(single release date: October 3, 2025)
By Robert M. Marovich
What would The Family sound like without Kirk Franklin?
Pretty solid, though not surprisingly, given the voices involved. The group’s single, “Jesus (I Love You Lord Today)” showcases strong ensemble and solo work on a church-ready worship song that sounds like church. It also echoes the melodic simplicity of some of Franklin’s finest compositions like “Why We Sing” and “Silver and Gold.”
The version edited for radio fades at the end when it could really benefit from a dramatic finish. Otherwise, this is a fine single from a time-honored group.
