Gospel veteran Mavis Staples earned two GRAMMYs: Best American Roots Performance for “Beautiful Strangers” and Best Americana Performance for “Godspeed”

Samara Joy, granddaughter of the late Ruth and Goldwire McClendon of the Savettes, earned a Best Jazz Vocal Album for Portrait.

Finally, Robert Randolph, a pedal steel guitarist from the sacred steel tradition, nabbed the GRAMMY for Best Contemporary Blues Album for Preacher Kids.
