Robert Turner Succumbs

Indianapolis, IN — On behalf of The Belle Report, we ask that all of our readers remember the family of Robert Turner in prayer. According to our sources Robert Turner passed early yesterday morning. He was a great artist and Morning Drive Announcer for 1310, The Light in Indianapolis, IN. Robert Turner and the Silver Heart Gospel Singers had a music ministry of 44 years plus. He was beloved within the Gospel Announcers Guild as well as the Gospel Music Workshop of America.

Robert Turner and the Silver Heart Gospel Singers represented some of Indiana’s finest traditional gospel. Formed in 1960 by then fifteen year old Robert Turner, the Silver Hearts grew into an Indianapolis institution, singing at churches, church reunions, and community gatherings all over the region and organizing an over forty year old annual city-wide Gospel Extravaganza. Robert Turner sang his first solo, “Let God Abide” at four years of age, standing on a chair in front of his church, the Metropolitan Baptist Church. He joined the church’s traveling choir at age 10 and fell in love with the traveling aspect of the group.

The Silver Hearts perform regularly at churches both locally and regionally. They also have traveled as far as California and Maine. They performed in Washington, DC during the summer of 2003 at the Library of Congress and at the John F. Kennedy Performing Center. Brother Turner will be greatly missed!
