The previous few singles released by Angelo & Veronica didn’t move me that much, but this one, “Cry For Your Soul,” is among their best.

From their thirteenth album, Back to the Gospel, “Cry” explores the emotional turmoil of an evangelist trying desperately to save someone who is not making the process easy. It hearkens back to the duo’s heady days in the early ‘90s, when they were turning heads and winning awards.

Individually and collectively, the duo’s vocals are penetrating, and their quiet storm R&B style evokes Brenda and Phil Nicholas in its blend of deep soulful sounds and spiritual messaging. They put a fine point to their message in the final phrase, “Don’t miss heaven.”
