“Get On Up for Jesus”

G.M. Prince’s “Get On Up for Jesus” never fails to put a smile on my face because, consciously or not, it evokes the Esquires’ funky 1967 soul hit “Get On Up” with its muscle-twitching beat and good time party feel. But who we’re getting-on-up for on this track is Jesus.

In fact, it’s a “Jesus party,” Prince reminds us, and for those concerned about all things material, he has a word: “what you really need to be worried about is your soul, because where we’re going, we can’t take none of that stuff with us.”

Born Gary Miguel Prince to an East Indian mother and Trinidadian father, G.M. Prince brings a variety of influences to his musical palette. The result is delightfully retro.
