The leadership and staff of the Gospel Music Workshop of America Quartet Division honored several gospel legends at its banquet Wednesday, July 11, at Nashville’s Gaylord Opryland Hotel.
Among the honorees were:
Evelyn Turrentine-Agee (“The Queen of Quartet”)
Dr. Andrew Cheairs and the Songbirds
The Fairfield Four
Ambassador Dr. Bobby Jones
The Truthettes
An evening highlight was when the Fairfield Four broke into a rhythmic a cappella version of “Dig a Little Deeper.”
Chicago’s very own Zadella “Mama” Curtis also received an award that night. Vania “Ms. Vee” Edwards of Washington DC’s WDCB presented the award to Mama Curtis, a significant force in promoting quartet music nationally.

Attendees watched a tribute video created by Lady Donna Creer, TBGB’s Bob Marovich, and Rev. Clarence “JC Loves” Thornton.
G5, the grand prize winners of the GMWA Quartet Quest, stole the show!
Special thanks to President Tyrone Porter, Lady Donna Creer, and the volunteer staff of the Quartet Division for another fun banquet!
