Tim Dillinger feat. Steffin Phifer
From the Suxxess Records album The Baton: 1985
Released to radio earlier this week, Tim Dillinger’s “(Go Back to the) Old Time Way” is a rollicking praise break, complete with sanctified rhythm, urban AC bass, and a vamp straight outta vintage gospel.
The lyrical longing for a return to the simple ways, when the Golden Rule was the prevailing rule, is augmented by Steffin Phifer’s rap about the current generation of worshippers (“looking at these sons and daughters, all I see is bench warmers, no praise starters”). It’s a song performance with enough action to fill two music videos.
