Charlie and Pam Horner of Classic Urban Harmony (pictured) recently set up an exhibit of black gospel vocal group memorabilia at the Franklin Township Public Library in Somerset (Central) New Jersey.
Said Charlie, “We originally had a smaller display there during the month of February, but the response was so great that the Library convinced us to build the current exhibit, which is about three times larger, and to have it there until mid-June.”
The exhibit contains approximately 70 items, including Fisk Jubilee Singers programs from the 1880s, 1890s, 1930s, and 2000s; wax cylinders by the Fisk Jubilee Quartette; songbooks and programs from the Fisk Jubilee Singers, Slayton Jubilee Singers, Pace Jubilee Singers; postcards from the Williams Jubilee Singers; a pennant from Mason’s Jubilee Singers; plus sheet music, autographed photos, 78 RPM albums, books, and records.
The Soul Stirrers shelf has the group’s first commercial record on the Bronze label, plus a printed program from one of the group’s reunions.
