“I Need You”
Lowell Pye
Overflow Entertainment (2013)
Opening with an acoustic piano riff that gives way to a full band, the andante-tempo “I Need You” is Lowell Pye passionately pleading for the Lord to help His people in their time of need.  Throughout, Pye evokes Fred Hammond with his elastic and soulful vocal flourishes.
Detroiter Lowell Pye was a member of John P. Kee’s New Life Community Choir for four years but it wasn’t until he joined the contemporary gospel group Men of Standard in 1996 that he became truly known.  “I Need You” is the second single from Pye’s latest solo album, Transformed.  Intense.
