i’m the executive director of the west virginia music hall of fame and we’re desperately trying to find out whether claude jeter (from the swan silvertones) is still alive – and, if so, where he is living.
he is among our final nominees to be inducted into the west virginia music hall of fame and we would like to have him (or a close relative) come to the ceremony this november.
thanks for any help you can provide,

When last I heard of Rev.Jeter, he was in a nursing home somewhere in Harlem ,NYC. This was some time ago( approx. 2yrs.)
I wanted to mention Bro.Thermon Ruth, of the Selah Jubilee Quartet.Thermon Ruth was responsible for putting Gospel in the Apollo Theatre. He had the first show in 1956. The list of performers includes most of the inductees on your list. Thermon Ruth passed in 2002.He also started a secular quartet called “The Larks”. He was a good friend of Rev.Jeter, and the Swan Silvertones.
I could tell you much more,or you can ask most of your inductee’s that are yet alive about Thermon Ruth.
Sincerely, Thermon Ruth Jr.

Hello, Mr. Ruth — thanks for writing.
Rev. Jeter is still in a nursing home in NYC and is unable to travel much, if at all. His health is not great.
Thurman Ruth was one of the great pioneers of gospel quartet music. I’m sure many of the inductees remember him fondly and with great respect for his artistry. If you would like to share more information with the Blog, we’d love to hear from you! Please send an email to [email protected].
