Darlene McCoy Presents Random Foolishness (A Hilarious Parody Album)
(Album available August 6, 2013)
Working as her alter ego, Peace Ann Love (pron. Pee-at-chay Ann Low-vey), singer and radio host Darlene McCoy is gospel music’s Weird Al Yankovic with her parodies of gospel and R&B hits.
In the spirit of “Take Me to Burger King,” her tongue-in-cheek lampoon of Tamela Mann’s “Take Me to the King,” McCoy converts Beyonce’ “Sasha Fierce” Knowles’ “Irreplaceable” into a serious finger wagging at a preacher whose shenanigans are all too apparent to the congregation. He is put out: “Pack your bags, you’re finished…We’ll have another one of you by Sunday.”
Of course, there’s always a smidgen of truth in a parody, so when McCoy sings, “don’t you ever for a second get to thinking you’re irreplaceable,” it’s food for thought for leaders of any organization.
What’s most amazing is that McCoy sings her spoofs with a straight face and, like 1950s opera comedienne Anna Russell, she really can sing.
