I’m convinced Joy Hill can sing any style of music she wants.

On her EP, Be Still, Hill moves effortlessly from Christian pop, with its stinging guitar licks (“So Amazing”), to anthemic praise and worship (“I See Your Glory”) to urban AC-style (“Unshakable”).  The title track reminds the listener that in the midst of trials, one must “be still and know that I am God,” all to an ethereal soundscape.

The effervescent and polyrhythmic “Unshakable” is where we hear the most moxie in Hill’s voice.  She is clearly a confident singer with many influences.  It is a good sign when you want to hear more from an artist, and I hope we hear more from Joy Hill in the future.

Originally from St. Kitts, Hill is married to Rev. Dr. E. Christopher Hill, Senior Pastor of The Potter’s House of Denver, Colorado.  She has led worship at several Woman Thou Art Loosed and MegaFest conferences.

The company promoting her EP, Signature Music Design, has a most interesting mission statement: “to educate & promote young aspiring artists while bringing awareness to social causes worldwide.” Thus, for every copy of Be Still, SMD will donate to the Pearl Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing women and children from human trafficking.
