“One”
Take 6

Gymnastic. Youthful. Complex. Rhythmic. Playful.
These are just a few descriptors for the iconic harmonies of Take 6, but let’s face it: you know them when you hear them. Or, to borrow one of the group’s metaphors from its new gospel single, “One:” “I don’t know the recipe of grandpa’s pound cake…but I just know it was good.”
To a funky, bluesy handclapping beat driven by a rhythm guitar dipped in Memphis soul, the group provides on the title track from its new album the true “recipe for life…it only takes one.” And that would be the One from Galilee.
The a cappella sextet that Quincy Jones once called “the baddest vocal cats on the planet” celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Watch TBGB for an interview with Take 6 member Alvin Chea.
