Los Angeles, CA – Under the vision and direction of Walt Whitman Jr. and E-Tre Productions (Eugene Bush), Soul Stories is a series of short films inspired by some of the life-changing circumstances that the Grammy Award-winning Walt Whitman & The Soul Children of Chicago have witnessed and experienced over the course of their 30-year history.
One of the stories profiles a young girl who was on her way to committing suicide before her friend invited her to a Soul Children performance. It was there that she encountered hope and decided her life was worth living. “The stories are about difficulty, conflict, and how the children overcome the obstacles of their environment, such as Chicago’s violence, yet manage to triumph through the inspiration and values they have learned through the music,” says Whitman.
Soul Stories is meant to touch the hearts of children, teens, and adults by providing hope through the courage displayed by the involved youth, and showcasing the impact that Walt Whitman has made in their lives through the environment he has created for his members.
Walt Whitman & The Soul Children of Chicago plan to release Soul Stories both nationally and internationally. Three stories (approximately 20 minutes each) have been completed, and the team is searching for a television network to air the series and funding to complete the three remaining episodes.
The Soul Children recently appeared with Queen Latifah and the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl; their performance will air on The Queen Latifah Show this September. While in Southern California, the choir presented the West Coast premiere of Soul Stories. Supporters include Jennifer Hudson, Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Yolanda Adams, Darren Criss, and Will.I.Am.
