The prayerful ballad “At Your Feet” is Cheryl “Coko” Clemons’s best solo work to date.
To a heartwarming melody, the lead singer of the Grammy Award-winning female group SWV lays her broken pieces and heavy load at the feet of Jesus, “because I’m really not that strong.” Knowing that letting go and letting God is the best policy, she can sleep soundly knowing that joy will come in the morning.
It’s a dramatic gospel song with a very well-crafted arrangement that benefits from a steadily building beat, a B3 seeping through every now and then, and supportive but not overpowering musicians and backing vocalists. Incidentally, Coko reunited with SWV’s Leanne “Lelee” Lyons and Tamara “Taj” Johnson-George to sing the song on BET’s Celebration of Gospelprogram, which aired Sunday, April 6.
