“Sovereign God”

Like the proverbial Energizer Bunny, Maurette Brown Clark’s The Dream keeps on going after two solid years of critical and commercial success, including two number one hits and two Stellar Awards.

The latest single culled from the “Princess of Praise and Worship’s” first live album is “Sovereign God.” The track opens as a contemplative praise and worship outing fueled by Maurette’s elastic and melodic voice over cascading harmonies from the background vocalists. By the conclusion, the ensemble has elevated the temperature and drama to an evangelical boil, which overflows onto the song’s four-minute reprise.

What “Sovereign God” lacks in the sing-song energy of “One God” or the reassuring message of “It Ain’t Over,” it makes up for in the intensity of the worship experience. And from the hearty applause, “Sovereign God” was the live recording’s crowd pleaser.
