“Bobbi, do it like you used to!”
So encourages a voice offstage as Chicago native Bobbi Lane cranks up an infectious urban AC beat to remind the listener that church should not be “a fashion show” or a place to be seen. No matter how the world may change, she sings, “God stays the same.” Especially when times are rough and “out of control,” you will be happy about God’s unchanging hands.
The lyrics remind me of Sallie Martin’s famous comment about why she never changed her style and remained a traditional singer: “Same old Sallie, same old Jesus.”
Daughter of Pastor and Ms. Abram Lane , Bobbi Lane was once a member of a gospel group with her sisters. In addition to her emerging solo career, Lane is co-founder of The Gift of Giving, an organization whose mission is to assist less fortunate children. Her husband, Minister Michael Taylor, hosts a television program on the Total Living Network.
