“Be Grateful”
Jennifer Hudson feat. Forest Whitaker and Jacob Latimore
From the Motion Picture Black Nativity

I have hoped for another Jennifer Hudson gospel track since “Jesus Promised Me a Home Over There” made minced meat of everything else on her debut solo album.  “Be Grateful” has a distinctive Hawkins feel, as the contemporary gospel choir’s softly swelling waves of warm sound lap against Hudson’s melismatic runs.

“Be Grateful” is from Fox Searchlight Pictures’ Black Nativity, a contemporary adaptation of Langston Hughes’s gospel musical starring Hudson, Forest Whitaker, Jacob Latimore, Mary J. Blige, and Angela Bassett.  The film is scheduled for release on November 27, 2013.
