Shekinah Glory Ministry injects its distinctively gentle but confident praise and worship sound on “Champion,” its latest single, written by Ashaala Shanae.
Opening with a litany of adjectives to describe God, the group transitions to an metaphorical exposition of one of them: champion. “You remain undefeated,” sings Danielle Nightingale Cargo, the psalmist who leads the selection with a voice of warmth and grace. It’s a timely descriptor, too, given the single’s release between the victories cheered at the 2012 Summer Olympics and the upcoming U.S. Presidential election.
