“They Said, But God Said”
Jekalyn Carr
From the Malaco/Lunjeal Music CD Greater Is Coming

Teenaged Jekalyn Carr has come a long way, from a cameo singing role in the gospel documentary Rejoice and Shout to the Malaco Records roster and a first-round Stellar nod.

On her latest single, “They Said, But God Said,” Carr urges us to ignore the ambient noise of naysayers and focus on our higher purpose.  “They said you’ll never be,” she sings, “but God says ‘I’m raising you for my glory.’”  Carr’s throaty purr is a cross between the young Tanya Tucker and an emerging evangelist, and by the end of the selection, she is in full evangelist sway.
