The sophomore debut by jazz violinist Kersten Stevens, currently completing her higher education studies at Yale University with a dual degree in music and African-American studies, is called Walks of Faith.

On this new project, Kersten uses the voice of contemporary jazz — and specifically her supple violin technique — to sing gospel standards such as “His Eye is on the Sparrow” and “Walk with me, Lord.” Kersten makes her violin sound like a gospel singer, complete with moans, trills, and melismatic runs.

Check out snippets of tracks from this and Kersten’s debut CD at her website.
