“You’re Right On Time”
Gloria Gaynor
From the CD We Will Survive (release date: November 26, 2013)
Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” was the anthem of a generation.  So entranced was I with the song when it came on the radio that I purchased the Polydor 45 not long after its release in 1978.
Today, the disco queen is having a go at gospel and her first single is “You’re Right On Time.”  It is a lovely little piano-led ballad with lyrics that riff on the premise that God may not come when you want Him, but He’s always right on time (and yes, she does mention survival).
Gaynor’s voice is mature and wise, a little like Cissy Houston’s I’ve-been-there-and-back-again sensibility.  I expected thumping beats to start midway through the song, but no dice.  It’s 100 percent ballad, though I hope there’s a mix in the song’s future.  I’m not just saying that to pigeonhole Gaynor in her dance music past, but it really would be quite effective with an uptempo lift halfway through.
Gaynor’s first gospel album, appropriately titled We Will Survive, will be released November 26 exclusively on amazon.com.  Signed copies of her autobiography, I Will Survive, are already available via her own website.
