“Thousand Tongues”
Amy Hillis feat. Lamain
From the EP A Better Word (release date: April 4, 2025)

By Robert M. Marovich

Referencing the Wesleyan hymn, “Oh for a thousand tongues to sing,” Amy Hillis’ “Thousand Tongues” is a sweetly-sung song of praise with lithe piano backing and a heartwarming string arrangement that tenderly embraces the melody.

Hillis, an Oklahoman who spends time in Nashville, harmonizes her praise with singer-songwriter Lamain, and they conclude, rather aptly, with a verse of “Amazing Grace.” It’s a reminder that a simple melody without lots of fanfare can touch the heart just as easily, and perhaps more directly, as a huge anthem. It’s a captivating recording gorgeously rendered and a contender for JGM’s Song of the Year. I hope to hear more from Amy Hillis in the future.
