“Back Again”
Anya Lee
NCS Collective (release date: January 10, 2025)
By Robert M. Marovich
Nearly dying from hypothermia while hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2019 infuses the message music of singer-songwriter Anya Lee. It’s especially apparent on her single, “Back Again,” a energetic fist pump of victory that thrums with the joy of overcoming and being alive to tell the story.
“I know what it’s like to be abandoned / To be left all alone on my own and stranded,” Anya sings about her experience, and when the music explodes behind her, it’s the sonic manifestation of physical and spiritual resurrection. Anya Lee may be an introvert, but the song, which she co-wrote with John Chisum and Coby James, is anything but.
