It’s ironic that profound sadness can produce beautiful art, but it often does. Think of Bishop Marvin Sapp’s “Never Would Have Made It,” Richard Smallwood’s “Total Praise,” and Thomas A. Dorsey’s “Take My Hand, Precious Lord.”
Missionary Dan Ucherek, who leads the CCM group The Beautiful Gate Music, wrote “Near” in 2023 while experiencing the grief brought on by the passing of his father. Embracing the wisdom of Psalm 34:18, the group offers a touching, gentle song that reminds us that, as another Psalm declares, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
Ucherek shared the touching, melodic “Near” with his family, and especially his mother, and will share it, as a single, with the world on January 31. It is the first single released from the Beautiful Gate Music album We All Need Jesus.
