Here’s another gospel song birthed out of the abyss of grief.
When Chicagoland-area gospel singer-songwriter Bobbi Lane’s father, Pastor Abram Lane, passed away, she wrote “Light in a Dark Place” to heal her pain. On this dramatic ballad, Lane focuses on how Jesus never gave up on her before, and if he didn’t do it then, he wouldn’t do it now in her time of sorrow. “There was times I wanted to give up, there was times that I wanted to throw in the towel,” she declares, “but you never left me.”
The background vocalists sound as if they have their hands outstretched over the anguished vocalist, who pours every ounce of emotion into the piece.
