“Grateful”
DJ Nevaquit
Independent (release date: October 24, 2025)
By Robert M. Marovich
On the front cover of DJ Nevaquit’s single “Grateful” is a young woman, eyes shut, lost in personal prayer.
She’s not DJ Nevaquit, who is actually Henry Jenkins, a male singer originally from Ozark, Alabama and now living in Decatur, Alabama. He has the perfect male voice for today’s R&B and pop music: sky-scraping, flexible and fluid. He flexes it, however, for the Lord.
To minimal accompaniment, DJ Nevaquit expresses gratitude not only for every darkness God has lighted for him, but for every single thing. If he had “ten thousand tongues,” he sings, he couldn’t thank God enough. “Every heartbeat testifies / You’ve been faithful all my life.” “Grateful” is ideal for contemporary gospel radio.
