“The City”
Sondra Busby
Independent (release date: August 4, 2023)

By Robert M. Marovich

To a rhythm that chugs along like a locomotive engine, South Carolina gospel singer Sondra “Queen of the Vamp” Busby imagines what heaven, aka “The City,” will be like when she disappears through the crack in the sky and enters its portal.

After fellowshipping with the saints, Busby describes a place with gold streets and jasper walls, where there’s no more crying and she can shout and tell her story. The “Meet me in the city” chant by the background vocalists is an encouragement for everyone to prepare for that inevitable journey. Together, Busby, her BGVs, and the musicians give the journey to the sky its motive force.
