“Thirst No More”
Nu Nation Choir
NuNationMusik (release date: February 27, 2026)

By Robert M. Marovich

I’m reminded of a comment attributed to Mahalia Jackson, and I paraphrase: sing a blues and you can still feel blue when it’s over, but sing a gospel song and your mood brightens because it promises a better day.

Such is the premise of “Thirst No More,” the auspicious debut single by the Nu Nations Choir. Using several techniques from the gospel choir toolkit, including call-and-response, full-throated cascading harmonies, and a well-placed key change, the group reminds the listener that if you are exhausted, overworked, and overwhelmed—and who isn’t?—“there’s a fountain that never runs dry.” The single brims with enthusiasm and will find special favor with fans of churchy gospel music.

John Walker Jr. (aka jDub) formed the Nu Nation Choir of youth and young adults in New Orleans in 2024. He knows all about youth choirs; for the past fifteen years, he has been part of the New Orleans Gospel Soul Children and its music director for the past decade. He’s also associated with the Atlanta-based gospel group Kevin Lemons & Higher Calling.
