“Bless Your Name”
Tonya Baker
Bakehouse Music Group (release date: January 3, 2025)

By Robert M. Marovich

“Bless Your Name” is a straightforward worship song based on the opening verses of Psalm 34, but where some worship leaders would play it straight, Tonya Baker juggles the melodic line playfully, like a jazz chanteuse.

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Baker is co-executive director of arts and music at the Potter’s House in Dallas. Singing the song in front of a live audience, Baker’s voice is confident and voluminous (so confident, in fact, that she lets out a gospel chuckle at one point) and yet you get the impression that she still has plenty of energy in reserve.
