RIP: Songwriter, Musician, and Minister, DeVaughn Murphy

Devaughn-Murphy-300x183Gregory Gay of informed JGM of the passing of DeVaughn Murphy, known for writing VaShawn Mitchell’s “Chasing After You.” Min. Murphy passed away last week.

ATLANTA, GA (July 20, 2015) – Truly loved and celebrated by his family and friends for the
tremendous musical anointing on his life, it is with bittersweet joy that the family of DeVaughn Murphy announces his transition to be with the Lord.

DeVaughn was one of the twin sons of Bishop William, Jr. and Lady Donna Murphy, of Rochester, MI. He married the former Khia Kinnard and they are the parents of Vhian, their pride and joy. In addition to his twin brother, DeJaughn, he is the brother of Bishop William, III, (Danielle), Brittany, and Jasmine Murphy. Hailing from a lineage of Pastors, his grandparents are Bishop William, Sr. and Lady Ella Murphy who lead Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church in Detroit, MI.

A Worship Gathering will be held this Friday, July 24th, 7 pm, at Greater Ebenezer Ministries, 18751 Fenkell Avenue in Detroit, MI.

The Celebration of Life will follow at 11 am on Saturday, July 25th at Second Ebenezer Baptist Church, 14601 Dequindre Road, Detroit, MI, which is pastored by Bishop Edgar Vann. It will be preceded by the family fellowship at 10:30 am.
