calvin bridgesA lovely tribute from gospel singer-songwriter Calvin Bridges:

Black History Month – My Tribute IV

I am blessed and elated to express my gratitude and veneration of several people who have made an indelible impartation in and have had significant impact on my life… my Heroes! Today…

Pastor Walter Veal

I Celebrate the men responsible for my recording career! First, Pastor Walter Veal, Just Faith Full Gospel Church, Harvey, IL, a friend and brother for 40 years… and host for many years on WYCA Radio. It was he who first approached me and the pastor of Spirit of Love Baptist Church, encouraging us to record. As I listen back to the recording, the children were rough around the edges but they had a power; an anointing that can still be heard today!

During that time, I was associated with Chicago’s Rev. Jessy Dixon. After completing the recording, I let Jessy hear it and he passed it to Rev Milton Brunson. Rev. Brunson sent it to the Los Angeles label, Birthright Records. The rest is history…

I am ESPECIALLY grateful to Rev. Milton Brunson, who was also a radio personality with a huge weekly listenership. He played me faithfully and often on his radio program… That put me on the map! I was blessed to tour for the next three years from the “Power Of Your Love” “album”, invited to perform at GMWA, Washington, DC, and at the first Edwin Hawkins Music and Arts Seminar in Oakland CA.

My relationship with Pastor Brunson grew and Jessy chose me to play piano on the Thompson Community Singers first hit recording, “It’s Gonna Rain” which also included my composition, “See So Much” This recording by the “Tommies”, started the Performing/Recording choir blitz of the 1980s!

I Bless and Thank GOD for you Men of God in my life! ‪#‎SETL‬! Gloray!!
