Those unfamiliar with Mud Morganfield will surely know the name of his late father, blues icon Muddy Waters. As we recognize that blues and gospel are first cousins, just like jazz and gospel are first cousins, it comes as no surprise that Morganfield is adept in both blues and gospel.
He demonstrates his gospel chops on “Praise Him,” which JGM reviewed back in 2021.
The video of the single is new and has been released in connection with a 7″ vinyl of the song, paired with “A Dream Walking.” The two sides are packaged by Nola Blue Records under the title Deep Gospel and will be available for sale at his shows starting this Friday, October 16.
