Beverly Crawford
From the forthcoming EchoPark JDI CD
Thank You For All You’ve Done (street date: May 20, 2014)
Who but Beverly Crawford could rip through the classic church rouser, “Sweeping Through the City,” like Shirley Caesar leading the Caravans?
First recorded in 1951 by a pre-teen Caesar with one of her early mentors, Evangelist Thelma Bumpess, “Sweeping” (also known as “I Won’t Be Back”) gets a pulse-raising treatment from Crawford and her backing choir. It closes her forthcoming album, which promises additional churchy moments. As good as, if not better than, her big hit, “It’s About Time for a Miracle.”
