DJ William Luck, gospel and soul music collector, spun gospel 45s for five hours at Maria’s Packaged Goods and Community Bar in Chicago’s South Side Bridgeport neighborhood this past Wednesday evening.
Despite outside temperatures that dipped to one solitary degree, the heat was on inside Maria’s, thanks to Luck and a playlist that included the Sensational Nightingales, Staple Singers, Norfleet Brothers, and two boxes full of independent gospel quartets and groups on seven-inch discs.
Luck will be reprising his “The Burying Ground Gospel Showcase” from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at Maria’s on the fourth Wednesday of February and March. For more information on Maria’s, visit www.community-bar.com.
