Multi-media minister Dr. Patrick L. Wooden, Sr. has been pastor of the Upper Room COGIC in Raleigh, North Carolina for more than a quarter-century. His Sanctuary Choir exudes the panache and professionalism that one would expect from a church with such a solid foundation.
On Tuesday, January 22, 2013, the choir will release its full-length album, Worship in the Upper Room: Standing In Your Presence.
Directed by C. Paige “Rocky” Raeford, the Sanctuary Choir is sonorous and warm on the slowly flowing, reverential title track, with Chris Turner offering a confident reading, false endings, and enough evangelical improvisation to stimulate 360 degrees of praise from the congregants and choristers. But on the more bracing “The Race” and “God Is In Charge,” the choir comes fully into its own. Here, it echoes the Keith Pringle and Ricky Dillard led groups of the 1980s in its rhythmic drive and dalliance with less-conventional vocal techniques.
If the rest of the album is as strong as the three songs on the promotional EP, Upper Room COGIC has a winner.

Attended the CD Release Celebration at the Upper Room COGIC in Raleigh, NC Sunday night.. It was awesome, one of the best Gospel CDs to be released in years..
