The Best of Elder Goldwire McLendon
The Best of Elder Goldwire McLendon
Many first became familiar with Elder Goldwire McLendon from his recent appearances on BET Sunday Best. Others know him as one of Philadelphia ’s native sons and a former member of the Savettes, the Brockington Ensemble, and the Victory Chorale Union.
Elder McLendon did not win Sunday Best, but he did secure a contract with Music World Gospel. His full project, The Best of Elder Goldwire McLendon, comes out April 24, making him, at age 81, the oldest American contemporary music artist to be signed to a record deal.
“Jesus Be a Fence Around Me,” his first single from the album, is a cover of the Soul Stirrers favorite, albeit with a contemporary gospel arrangement. By the end, Elder McLendon is getting religiously funky!
