“The Way, the Truth, the Life” is a little bit country, a little bit gospel, and a whole lot Bapticostal.

Taking its text from John 14:6, this sacred two-stepper by the Central Baptist Church Choir of Dunn, North Carolina, expresses the joy of knowing that God lifts us when we are at our lowest. The cascading harmonies have the density of shape-note singing and the country bluesy guitar work is straight outta Nashville. Soul’d Out layers, like sweet frosting, its southern gospel quartet sound atop the choir.

The 100-plus-voice multigenerational choir, which sings with an almost uncanny self-confidence, is directed by Pastor Darren Hughes.
