“Suddenly”
Christian Anderson
Independent (release date: October 25, 2024)

By Robert M. Marovich

The low chirping of an organ, contemplative piano runs, and Christian Anderson’s impassioned voice, with its flowers and frills, give “Suddenly” the feel of a church solo. The only thing missing is a congregation to encourage her.

Midway through, the atmosphere shifts. The background vocalists and the rest of the band join Anderson on a long vamp, where she proclaims that the move of God in one’s life can happen instantaneously. The ensemble, led by a now-evangelistic Anderson, takes the arrangement to the edge of a praise break, though truth be told, the singer could have stopped after her solo with piano and organ and still wrecked the church.

Based on Amos 9:13-15, “Suddenly” is an auspicious debut single from this accomplished and affecting Greensboro, North Carolina, singer.
