“God Won’t”
Autumn Nelon feat. the Issacs
Daywind Records (release date: April 18, 2025)
By Robert M. Marovich
After losing members of her family in a plane crash last July, Autumn Nelon returns with a song that testifies to the presence of God in the midst of the most difficult pain and suffering.
With gentle acoustic support from the Dove Award-winning southern gospel group the Isaacs, Nelon offers a litany of ways in which “God Won’t” (judge you without grace, leave you alone, fail, turn away, not walk through the fire for you).
The crash claimed the lives of Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, their daughter Amber and son-in-law Nathan Kistler, their assistant Melodi Hodges, and the pilot Larry Haynie and his wife Melissa. They were en route to join the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska. Autumn was in Seattle and not on the plane.
As one can imagine from Nelon and the Isaacs, the singing is strong, the countrified harmonies are tight as a harmonica, and the lithe bluegrass instrumentation is supportive but stays in the background. Lovely as a bouquet of fresh flowers.
