“I’ll Give to You the Best of Me”

A recent example of how gospel music is a global phenomenon can be found in Italy and on a single called “I’ll Give to You the Best of Me” by Giovanni Zucchi and Gio’s Project.

Lead vocalist Angie Brown, who also penned the lyrics and handled the vocal arrangement, is the standout musician in the mix. She might not feel worthy of God’s love, she confesses, but she does her best, and if her best is as solid as her singing, she has no need to worry.

Another notable is saxophonist Carlo Maria Micheli, who blows as if trying to knock down the Jericho Walls. Band leader Zucchi’s organ riffs are saucy and churchy at the same time. Ricky Quagliato leads on drums like a veteran prog rocker as the band gives this gospel more than a touch of R&B. Not surprisingly—the album from which this single comes also includes pop songs. The single is full of musical vigor.
