“I Count Everything as Joy”
Pastor Reginald W. Sharpe Jr. and Fellowship Chicago
Independent (single release date: March 6, 2026)

By Robert M. Marovich

On “I Count Everything as Joy,” the voices of Fellowship Chicago are in fine form and the song has a hymnic quality, but in its effort to be fresh and innovative, the rhythm section gets in the way of the rich beauty of the song and the singers. Given Fellowship’s legacy as a choir church, going back to its founding in 1950 by the late Rev. Dr. Clay Evans, it might have been better to just let the choir do its thing with a minimum of interference. It almost begs for an acoustic version that features the choir with only organ, piano, and drums.

The song is led by Senior Pastor Rev. Reginald W. Sharpe Jr. and Pastor of Worship and Arts Kevin Vasser. It is the lead single from the choir’s new album, The Flow, which released digitally on April 3.
